“Many people told me the datasets were great and very easy to use. We love to continue partnering for future events!” – Jason Yim, HopHacks

“The datasets were really clean, easy to access and easy to use. It was a joy to be able to use the data provided.” – Eric Rothman, Co-Founder Threat Sync

If you are part of the Open Data Community, you will be delighted to know that the number of freely available core datasets on DataHub has doubled to 122, thanks to a partnership between John Snow Labs and Open Knowledge International – “a global non-profit organization focused on realizing open data’s value to society by helping civil society groups access and use data to take action on social problems”.

This vision is strongly in line with John Snow Labs’ mission to provide access to fresh and clean data – now not only to data scientists, but to everyone who has a need and meaningful use for it.

It’s a big day for the open data community because all these 122 core datasets have gone through three levels of quality reviews (2 manual ones by domain experts, 1 automated set of 50+ checks on the data and metadata), and there is now a team of experts, who is committed to keeping them up to date for free.

Data content covers economy, geography, climate, Internet, health and pharma with 58 core datasets, 21 community datasets and 43 newly donated ones. These are the core components of every domain that covers life, health, environment, politics and business, which will help shape every area that matters to human life.

Updating the Master Provider Index is a ten-minute process with John Snow Labs. We’ve dramatically accelerated a process that used to be two days of work.” – Claudiu Branzan, Principal Software Engineer Atigeo.

Eight Data Researchers were involved in achieving the curation, movement and quality review of 122 Core datasets.

John Snow Labs took the datasets from the official core datasets as well as additional community datasets from http://data.okfn.org/data.

In addition to current core and community datasets, John Snow Labs has donated Health (28 datasets) and Pharma (4 datasets) data accelerators. Donated datasets came from previously paid data accelerators from John Snow Labs’ data catalogue.
